Can All Concrete Be Polished?

The quality of a concrete slab is the underlying factor that determines which polished concrete finishes will be most suitable for your concrete.

Whilst not all concrete is suitable for mechanically polished finishes, such as HiPERFLOOR, there are many sealers available that will guarantee a high quality polished finish on almost all concrete slabs.

There are many factors that determine the quality of a concrete slab. Where the concrete came from, when it was poured, how it is placed, and what is added to it all contribute to the overall quality of the slab.

Husqvarna’s HiPERFLOOR system relies heavily on the quality of the concrete slab. Put simply, the better the concrete – the better the end result. As the HiPERFLOOR system does not have any clear coats on the surface, it is imperative that the hardening chemicals can react positively with the concrete. In most cases this is not a concern on new concrete, however, some older concrete slabs, recycled concrete mixes, and slabs with high sand content do not have the integrity for the hardening chemicals to react and provide the durable, hard-wearing surface that HiPERFLOOR is known for.

Where a concrete slab is not of a high enough standard to mechanically polish, a topical sealer is the best option. As this creates a clear, hard-wearing layer on the surface, the quality of the underlying concrete slab is not as important.

Creating a naturally beautiful, hard-wearing polished concrete finish is a simple matter of determining which finish is the best for your concrete.
